Free 'Places to Advertise & Promote your Web Site'

Hints from one who has been there and done that, yours truly! You can save yourself a lot of time and headache, by checking out my notes before going any further.

Virtual Promote's Gazette is a web site promoters 'bible'. If it isn't, it should be. Jim offers a weekly update that is read cover to cover, and anxiously awaited by most of us seeking numbers! I visit Jim's site quite often and could spend hours and hours just 'soaking-up' his wisdom and knowledge. Oh, and no I don't know Jim, nor does he know me. However, everybody calls him Jim, subscribe to his newsletter and you will see! Virtual Promote

Webmastersites.com publishes a monthly news letter called Webmaster Enews. Her website is new to the the scene, however she started off averaging 100 hits a day! Is it the domain name? Or is it possibly the META TAGS? Her name is Terri, ask her! I actually met Terri via of Jim's 'Gazette' and asked her to write my tags for me. She is great! My site count is up 3,000+ in approximately 3 weeks, thanks Terri!

Virtual Bites & Bytes was the name of this news letter. I just recently subscribed to it as I heard great reviews. However, on double ckecking the URL, I notice they may have changed the name to Surfers Internet Guide. Either way, it is supposed to be very informative.

Web Developer also has an excellant news letter. This one comes out every Friday night. Something for the weekend readers to sink their teeth into. This site also has some great articles. Another need to bookmark site for regular updates.

Search Engine Watch. The name pretty much says it all. In order to play the 'add url' game, we need to know how they operate, what changes they have made, do they use spiders and meta tags, etc. Another e-mail publication to devour, cover to cover.

Web Reference Update. Another very informative site with lots of useful information as well as links to other resources.

Award-lt started off as site that basically gave 'Award'. It still is, however recently they started a e-mail news letter. Still in the fine tuning stage, but more often than not has very useful information.

PR2 actually just started (or re-started) his news letter. The first issue hit 850+ e-mail boxes last weekend. I was not one of recipents, but judging from the information on his site and his past attempt, it definately looks promising. Keep in mind, these news letters will cross cover a lot of the same information. Although it is important to note that each news letter can supply you with new information in part or whole. Check

NetBITS has suprised me on more than one occasion! Generally speaking the subjects covered so far, have not been what I (in particular) am looking for. However it may have the information you are looking for. Do not discount this news letter on either count. This news letter supplied one of the most useful java scripts I have ever come across. It's purpose is to stop 'junk mail spider's' from gathering your e-mail address off your site pages! No more 'junk mail' from that source. While I am not a big fan of their software, they do have an excellent site and newsletter. WebPromote does indeed stay on top of any changes in tactics of the search engines, as well as offering sound advice for other methods of promotion.

Learning from someone else's 'hind site'. Before you actually start your advertising and promotion campaign, do yourself a favor and make up a spreadsheet. There are things you will need to keep track of for a number of reasons. Take a look at mine for an example.

Virtual Promote with over 200 search engines. Since it will take the average person well over a year to submit all thier URL's to the list on this site, I think this site should be enough to get you started. I will add more later.
